MP Wamuchomba hints at running for presidency in future

Wamuchomba has outlined a bold vision for Kenya’s future, centered around empowering local production through cottage industries and affordable utilities.
Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has expressed her intention to run for the presidency in the coming years.
In a post shared on her verified X account on Sunday, April 20, 2025, the outspoken legislator, originally elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket but now aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, outlined an ambitious roadmap she hopes to implement if granted the opportunity to lead Kenya.
Wamuchomba has outlined a bold vision for Kenya’s future, centered around empowering local production through cottage industries and affordable utilities.
The MP said if elected president, she plans to establish cottage industries across the country, promising to subsidize electricity to make production more affordable.
Her proposal includes turning backyards into small-scale manufacturing hubs, producing everyday items such as toothpicks, spoons, pots, towels, and belts.
To support this, she aims to create special cottage zones with reduced rates for water and power.
"One day, I will lead this country. I will transform our available labour into wealth by creating cottage industries and reducing power costs. Every household with a backyard will be a center of production for domestic goods," she declared.
Wamuchomba also revealed plans to host a national symposium to promote the cottage industry and launch an award system to recognize outstanding innovators in the space.
Additionally, she envisions a cottage incubation fund in each county to support emerging entrepreneurs.
As part of her broader plan, she proposes converting underused stadiums into evening cottage markets operating between 6 pm and 1 am, maintained by dedicated cleaning teams.
She also promises to deploy extension officers to monitor progress and provide technical support to budding cottage businesses.
"Our idle stadiums will serve as vibrant cottage markets each night. And we will have professionals on the ground to guide and support these ventures," she adds.
Wamuchomba further elaborated on her vision by pledging to overhaul Kenya’s industrial estate, ensuring it is well-funded to promote and export locally made cottage products to the global market.
“I will transform Kenya’s industrial estate and invest in marketing our cottage products abroad. When I become president, we will no longer export raw macadamia, coffee, or tea. We will process them locally and sell finished products,” she wrote.
